May 21, 2018
After a seemingly never-ending winter in New Jersey, the unofficial start of summer is finally here — Memorial Day, when we remember those we have lost while serving in our armed forces. It’s also a day to enjoy off from work and time with family and friends in the sunshine, we hope.
Looking for a way to you can celebrate your three-day weekend, but don’t want to go to a parade? Well, there are lots of things going on in and near Central Jersey worth the drive that will keep you and the whole family occupied.
Tour of Somerville, Monday
To Central Jerseyans, the Tour of Somerville is a fun and different way to celebrate Memorial Day as they watch 600 cyclists speed up to 40 miles per hour past the borough’s iconic Victorian homes. However, to the rest of the country, it’s the oldest bicycling race in America as well as one of the most prestigious.
Free for spectators, the three-day tour will culminate its 75th annual edition with at 10:30 a.m. start on Monday. Before that, the Memorial Day Parade will begin in the borough at 8:30 a.m. followed by the 9:30 a.m. family fun ride. During the day, you can also catch live entertainment, sports demonstrations and a bike swap meet.
